Dynamic modeling of a three-way catalyst for SI engine exhaust emission control
نویسندگان
چکیده
| Automotive emissions are severely regulated. Since 1980, a three-way catalyst (TWC) has been used to convert harmful emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen into less harmful gases in order to meet these regulations. The TWC's e ciency of conversion of these gases is primarily dependent on the mass ratio of air to fuel (A=F ) in the mixture leaving the exhaust manifold and entering the catalyst, the velocity of the exhaust mass, and the temperature of the catalyst. The goal of this paper is to develop a dynamic, control-oriented model of a TWC. First, the measurement capabilities will be described. Then, a simpli ed, dynamic catalyst model that can be determined on the basis of medium bandwidth A=F measurements and low bandwidth temperature and emission measurements will be developed and validated. متن کاملDynamic Surface Control of Engine Exhaust Hydrocarbons and Catalyst Temperature for Reduced Coldstart Emissions
Almost three quarters of the hydrocarbon (HC) emissions emitted by an automobile in a typical drive-cycle are produced during the first three minutes of its operation called the coldstart period. In this paper, we propose a way to decrease cold start emissions. A Model-Based paradigm is used to aid the generation of an efficient controller. The controller is built around a mean value engine mod...

This article presents the research results on production and performance of palladium-only catalytic converters. Monolith is used as the catalyst carrier and gamma alumina as the substrate. Dipping method is used for monolith washcoating. Palladium as the active metal is impregnated on gamma alumina using wet impregnation to produce catalyst samples. The effects of factors such as percent solid...
متن کاملAn Investigate on Power, Torque and Exhaust Gas Emission Variation: Effect of Hydroxy Gas Addition to Inlet Air of a SI Engine
Hydrogen has been known as a clean and suitable fuel to replace conventional fossil fuels. One of the common hydrogen production methods is using water electrolysis process. This method produces oxygen as well as hydrogen by ratio of 1:2. The aim of this work is to investigate the effects of inlet air enrichment by adding produced hydrogen and oxygen to an internal combustion engine. For this p...
